Which coatings dont care if they are topped?

I have a customer that wants a correction and coating on his 1 year old truck. He likes the cleanability of a coating but loves to wax his car monthly. What coatings "dont mind" being topped? The previous owner of his wifes benz had it coated and he loves how clean the car stays and easy it is to wash. I searched the forum and found many reviews but no such info on which coatings can be topped with out harming the coating.

    Thanks

Any coating can be top unless the instruction stated not to
I had good experience with sonax PNS top with BSD and the self cleaning properties is more than excellent of all coatings I tried.

Once he tops the coating with a wax...he can forget about the car staying cleaner. Wax attracts everything. Coatings repel. Waxing over the coating is working against yourself, but hey, if that's what he wants.

DP coating supposedly can be topped with any wax. Pinnacle black label can be topped with synergy.
In my day we didn't have the Internet, iPods,iPads, or smart phones....but we had some really bad-azz cars.

He is a retired guy who is a little old school when it comes to wax. I explained that the coating would be sufficient protection and waxing will not be necessary. He then asked "but what will protect the coating then"? I kind of get it, its what he does. Its my job to choose the right product to apply to his truck.

    To Whom it may concern:
The following biased opinion is from a:
    Superannuate's point-of-view.

    __________________________________________

    •Short Answer Package:
-Yes...Once ("true") Coatings have totally cured, Finishing Waxes can be applied over them without causing damage to the Coatings.
    -No Cleaner-Waxes.

    •Long Answer Package:
-Includes everything in the Short Answer Package, plus
    -The following:

    However...
•By now, everyone that deals in Coatings, young or old, should know this:
    -Layering-Waxes-over-Coatings-Practice is pointless in that
(although ephemeral) it does change the behavior of the different contaminates and water(s) that land upon vehicle' surfaces until the Waxes have been degraded.
-Coatings do stay cleaner if Waxes (and Sealants, as far as that goes) are left out of the equation.

    BTW:
    •Does anyone, including Detailers-by-trade,
    still "layer" Waxes over Sealants?

    -If so: Isn't that old-school?
-If not: What's going to protect the Sealant then?
    -Ad infinitum; ad nauseum.

Maybe the old school dude can be converted.. If you use a coating like CQUK that has a coating specific treatment (Use CarPro Reload) maybe you can sell him on using Reload 1x a month instead of traditional wax. This way he can still apply something, yet it won't interfere with the coating.

Re: Which coatings dont care if they are topped?

I just recently started coating cars in my shop and really love the look.
The shine is like no other.
    Slick.
Very easy to wash the car once it's coated.

That being said I'll miss sealing/waxing my car but knowing the coating will last up to two years is a good thing being I don't have time to maintain my cars as I did before starting my full time shop.

I'm curious , would applying a glaze cause the coating not to be "Self Cleaning" as a was would?

•Isn't CarPro's Reload marketed as a Spray Sealant?

    •Are you then saying that:
This particular Sealant (Reload)...out of all the other
Sealants that are out there in today's marketplace...is:
THE ONE that won't interfere with a Coating?
    Won't change a Coating's characteristics?

    •Are you also saying that:
-Applying Waxes over Coatings is what old school dudes
need to be converted from doing. Being that it's:
    Nearly sinful in its scope.

-Yet...Applying Sealants over Coatings is not condemnable?

I would suggest to sell him a second layer coat to protect the 1st coat lol

Re: Which coatings dont care if they are topped?

I have not found a coating yet that has "cared" if it was topped. They have all been quite and gone along with the plan. None of them have yelled at me yet.

But topping a coating with a wax does go against the point of the coating other then the suggest protection it adds. But I belive most of the added protection really comes for the dirt shedding properties the coatings provides. So a wax will cover it up and negate it.

Sounds like your best suggestion is a sealant and wax combo. The coating isn't going to do him any good if he is going to keep touching it.
