Re: Inverter generator vs traditional generator
Inverters produce a clean sign wave AC power which would be better for electronics such as TV or computers.
Not sure it would really be needed for your application?
2200 watts is about 18 amps, your VC4000 is about 18 amps so I would think you would want something a little bigger then 2200 watts.
It's just my personal opinion but I wouldn't want to push any generator over 70-80% for any period of time?
For me that would mean 2700-3000 watts for just the steamer.
Google inverter generators and you will find a lot of info, also recommended size "watts/amps" for your needs.

Re: Inverter generator vs traditional generator
As I understand it, a traditional generator will produce an AC Sine wave, the frequency will vary with the engine's rpm.
An inverter generator produces DC, and inverts it to AC. This keeps the frequency constant.
Quality inverters will produce a sine wave, while cheaper units will produce a square wave.
The square wave will result in more heating of your electrical load. This is a good thing for an electric heater, or light bulb. Your electronics might not like the extra heat.
Check your needs based on your load.
good luck
