Do you use spray wax as a topper / refresher to existing coat??

Lately I'm starting to reconsider using these...

I wouldn't apply a regular paste wax without doing a full wash/clay/polish... it didn't make sense to put another coat of wax on top of the contaminants. So I'm asking myself why is it okay to top up with a spray wax... same concept, no?


QD, for sure... but an additional coat from a no doubt solvent heavy spray wax? I'm starting to second guess it.

IMO a spray wax acts like a sacrificial layer to your base coat.

I would apply paste wax over a car I had a known good upkeep after a standard 2BW, regardless of a few bonded contaminants. I'm not looking to do a full correction every 1-2 months. With a black vehicle, I've not found a clay yet that won't mar the paint to some degree. That leads me to believe that all clay or clay substitutes mar to some extent, but perhaps some colors hide it better.

If that supposition is indeed true, then a correction is in order and it's probably not a great idea to remove clear coat on that regular a basis regardless of how much free time one might have.

As far as bonded contaminants are concerned, you'll get some the first time you drive a freshly corrected vehicle on the street. Rubbing some wax over it will essentially seal it from the oxygen it reacts with, and you get to it the next time you decide the paint is in need of a polishing step.

That is, unless it's something that should be dealt with immediately like driving on a freshly paved road, or catching some overspray from your neighbors painting their wicker furniture.

I use Duragloss and Optimum spray waxes with good results as a topper. This way I only get down and dirty with the polishers twice a year just for a spruce em up polishing.

Taking into account you're above reasons:
If you're wary about applying a Spray Wax on top of an LSP...
Why would you consider applying a QD on the LSP to be OK?

-If a QD's surfactants clean the LSP'ed paint...couldn't a form of Wax then be applied (paste, liquid, spray, creme/cream)?

-How often would you use a QD between: re-claying/re-polishing/re-LSP'ing a vehicle?

-Is there that much contaminate build-up to be overly concerned about refreshing an LSP?

Some things should "come out in the wash".

Yes, I definitely use them..

I use WG Deep Gloss Spritz Sealant and Megs D156..

WG Deep Gloss Spritz Sealant can be used over WG Fuzion and that's a huge plus.

That would seem to indicate you'd want some more in depth responses than a short one liner, no?

I use a spray wax (D156 or Aquawax) after each and every wash as a drying aid. Its cheap insurance and wont really seal in the "contaminants"

But anyway using a good QD and or a Spray Wax/Sealant is a huge benefit to boosting the protection of the main LSP.

Best to use after a wash usually, either as a drying aid to save time or after the car is dried.

I don't use them after every wash, every other wash depending, but my cars are white and prepped so it's a little easier.

Better to spend 5 to 10 mins with a spray wax then taking the time wax or seal every week or so on a daily driver I think.
