    Did i screw up?

I bought some PB SSR 2.5 and 1 - I did a pass with an orange pad (2.5) and then a white pad (1) and then notices that both pads were red - I was almost certain that the truck has a clearcoat on it - is it normal that the red came off like this ?

    Totally possible.

Perhaps the car has been repainted?

Is the paint glossy? Most basecoats are not glossy, so if the clear is missing and you buffed on basecoat it probably would look dull.

If the paint is glossy then it's probably a single stage enamel or urethane.

    What are you working on?

Could be a tinted clear coat too but you would only pull a "little" color. I have an article on this,

Apply some polish to a Microfiber towel and do some test rubs on several panels. If the color transfer is consistent then it's more then likely a single stage paint.

Single stage paints are generally softer than their color coat / clear coat counter parts. Single stage paints tend to oxidize or become dull much faster too.

Start by using PoorBoy's World SSR1 on a White pad and gauge it's performance. Prime the pad as you normally would then add 3 or 4 dime size globs of product. Polish a section and see if you're achieving your goals.

Single stage paints also benefit from products containing oils and other nutrients. You can get into an entirely new area of single stage paint restoration using products like Meguiar's #7 Show Car Glaze but it really depends how bad the finish is and the goal in which you're trying to achieve.

Let us know how you make out...maybe some before and after photos....
