Using a Citrus Degreaser on Body

Question: Would I still need to clay if I spray a Citrus based degreaser on the body?

I have my wifes car to detail that hasn't been detailed in over a year. I figured on Spraying degreaser then washing with DG 901 then going over with Clay Magic. Would that be overkill? I guess it depends on how the paint feels after Degreasing right?

Also like to get some insights to applying Degreaser to the body?
    - For Body cut to 4:1
    - Spray on full body or only lower panels?
    - Is a wash necessary after Degreasing?

Lets here what you have to say

i personally dont spray degreasers on body panels...but many do with great success...i feel it is to harsh on the paint...either way...yes...you will still need to clay as the degreasers will not remove embedded contaminants..and washing is necessary after degreasing as many degreasers, even citrus based ones, have sodium hydroxide in them and that will leave a dull white residue on your paint if not washed off with car soap and water

Depends on what kind of degreasers you use. There are many that, if diluted properly, will do a great job. But even with that, I still suggest claying the car.

in the past if i needed the use of a degreaser for body wash i just added to wash water and washed the car that way. from my understanding CG's have a citris wash &gloss that is a pretty strong soap. cant remember who it was but someone on here talked about using it in the foam gun. they said it took all left over polish off with out touching it. and according to CG's site it will strip all old wax from vehicle.

I personally have only used a degreaser on the engine bay area, I (that's just me) wouldn't bring a degreaser to the paint, well perhaps the ratio/cut would help but that's just me. However, I am going to use the P21S Total Car Wash on the lower parts of the vehicle. I'm completely sold on P21S products, I tried the P21S wheel Gel and man that stuff is amazing. Well that's just my feed back.

As for claying, like the other guys mentioned I would still clay.

That's just my feed back, hope it helps.

That was going to be my recomendation. PB Bug Squash is a great pre-treat for a wash. Cut it down to 1:2 or 1:4, rinse the vehicle, spray BS on, wash, rinse, dry, voila.
