    Paint Defects

    These defects were on the car when I bought it second hand.

    Can someone tell me what they are and what caused them?

    I'm guessing I'll need to wetsand with 3000 or 2500 then compound / polish?

    Not knowing what they are has been making me hold off. The car has a couple simular spots.

    Car is a 2002 Accord. Unstable clear is what I was afraid of and why I've been holding off a repair.

    I'll crop this photo and post using high resolution tomorrow. If needed I can get a closer picture in a few days.

    Yeah, based on the pic it looks like etching caused by bird droppings left to dwell for a bit too long.

    as other said bird drop etchings Can you see any cracks in the clear coat in the area?

    If you look closely it seems like lots of interconnected lines of defect with the paint between them intact.

    Wouldn't it be more of a uniform stain over the entire area if it were bird etchings? (Really hoping to be wrong here since clearcoat failure I think will be mpre of a major repair)

    Will wetsanding, compound and polish lessen it, or has the clear been damaged to the extent that nothing can be done without a major repair?
