Thrifty Vs Fifty Ep 3 : Meguiar's Clay Bar Vs Speedy Surface Prep Towel
Hey guys, this is the third episode in a series of videos I'm making called Thrifty vs Fifty.
Essentially I'm comparing two products that can do the same function: one with a low price tag and the other with a high one... and to see if the added price is worth it. Hence, the thrifty vs fifty.
I'm not just going around finding the cheapest and most expensive options out there and comparing them. In my eyes, that comparison would be useless. I am comparing two products that people on forums have highly recommended for a certain task and then if they have big enough different price points, making a video comparison.
Today's episode is on clay vs clay alternatives. Meguiar's Clay Bar vs Speed Surface Prep Towel.
I've done a review on the towel itself, but not a comparison between the towel and a clay bar.
So without further ado, here is the video:
Thrifty Vs Fifty Episode 3
Conclusion:
Both products work very well.
A pro of clay is that you can see contamination in the clay.
Pros of the towel include easier to clay larger surfaces, you can drop the towel, reusable, no wasted time on kneading.
Simple answer: If you clay a lot, get the towel. If you clay once a year or less, get the clay bar.
Advantage:
The Speedy Surface Prep Towel gets the advantage nod from me, because of the reusable nature and the speed of the towel to clay.
Hope you guys enjoyed

The blackfire clay cleaner and extender seems to really help with removing a majority of the contaminates bonded to the clay prior to kneeding. The only problem is, as you've shown, that the whole process of claying is just way too time-consuming compared to this speedy prep towel. Definitely considering getting it now!

Speedy prep is awesome. The surface area of it is about 4 times larger than a clay bar. It also glides across the surface alot easier without sticking to the paint as much as clay.

In my tests I didn't notice any difference in gliding, but it certainly has a WAY bigger surface area than clay

Let me know what you think of it! I know I have no chance of sounding like a manly man now, but it seriously is one of my favorite drinks. Not something to get drunk on, but something nice to drink while hanging out or watching a movie.
Also, it's quite the hit with the ladies, so if you're single trust me, use it!
Let me know if you ever make it and what you think! I love making drinks almost as much as detailing

Thanks for posting the video. I like them and intend on watching all of them as you post them. I have the medium Speedy Surface Prep Towel for the cruddy commercial vans and buses that I often times work on but I still prefer using clay on the cars that I detail. The reason I like the clay better for cars is that on cars there are many more tight areas to decontaminate such as vents and around the grill area, the speedy prep towel tends to leave brown tar like streaks behind in these tight areas.
Keep using it and you'll eventually experience what I'm trying to describe. Having said that, I use my speedy prep towel and when it no longer works I'll be buying another for sure.
