Help with Sealants Vs Wax - Im a new guy..

Am better to use a sealant on my 2006 Mercedes E550 or my Zymol Concours wax. I was always told to stay away from sealants (IE: Liquid Glass) and to use wax.

    Thanks in advance

There are some very nice sealants available today and they don't have to break your wallet. Today's sealants will leave the finish looking gorgeously wet providing the surface is properly prepped.........but that goes for wax too!

Sealants have come quite a ways. There are plenty of sealants and hybrid sealants that will easily outlast many quality paste waxes. It really depends on what type of gloss/finish you're looking for. For durability, I choose sealants most of the time. For looks, a nuba paste wax.

Do you do all your work by hand or by machine?

I do most everything by hand. Someone recomended to take it to a shop for the initial detailing, then do it all myself.
Anyone know a good shop in the western suburbs of Illinois?

    Thanks for the quick replies.

You'll be safer finding someone off this forum.

Detailers that hang out on forums know more than detailers that don't. Plus this forum works kind of like Angie's List in that it's self-policing.

If you start a thread like this,

Pro Detailer in Western Suburbs of Illinois

You'll be able to sift through any person's "Posting History" that replies and offers their service and you'll be able to tell right away from their posts if they know that they are doing or not.

You'll also get qualified recommendations from others on this forum.

I probably help 1-2 people a month find a Pro Detailer in their area and it all starts wit a thread posted to the forum.

Before you hire anyone to "touch" your car, read through this,

You can easily do a great job by hand, just do the basics...

    Wash
    Inspect for bonded contaminants
    Pre-clean paint
    Apply Sealant

How to clay, clean and wax paint by hand with Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion and Pinnacle Signature Series II Carnauba Paste Wax

Pinnacle Signature Series II premium Carnauba Sax does not need to dry; after applying to a panel, use a clean, soft microfiber towel like the Cobra Indigo Microfiber Towel and immediately remove the wax and then move on to applying to a new panel.

This is a simple approach that leaves a protective coating on the paint while creating a clear, reflective finish with a deep wet shine.

Sealants are not bad. The choice is yours.

sealants offer longer protection (not necessarily better) and you will see more time between applications. Waxes typically look a bit nicer in a traditional sense but often need application more frequently. This is of course generally speaking.

Since you already have it, I'd definitely use the Zymol Concours on it.
