claying..

I haven't clayed in awhile and I forgot how tedious it was, and I kept getting smears/not a clean finish when buffing off the excess lube (i used cg synthetic qd and clay lube)

how can I speed it up?

I have a buddy that swears by claying immediately after washing (while the car is still wet). He still sprays the car with clay lube while it's wet though. Clays her, then dries her up after she is completely clayed and rinses the car once more for good measure iirc.

To me, this seems like a risky proposition and makes me nervous that one would induce more defects than if the car was dried then clayed. Not sure if thats true or not.

i'm aware of the autoscrub, but thats not actual clay thats an alternative method, have not heard of the speedy prep towel though

I always clay right after washing. I just the wate hose instead of detailing lube. Saves money and never had any problems with just using water.

I have seen the autoscrub on other forums and quite frankly it scares me. 50/50 on how much maring of the paint this will produce. I saw on one forum that it look like he polished with 50 grit sand paper etc.... Curious as to what the pro's think of it....

What are you referring to that would cause the marring ? Claying after washing or using water only as a lube ?

neither of those, hes referring to the autoscrub (product) actually marring, if i understand lol

oh, gotcha, like I mentionea earlier, i have been using just water from my water hose to clay with, and it seems to work just as good as detail lube. or I will mix a small spray bottle of water and a little liquid soap.
