I know theres no way to fix it. A BMW i bought, 98 7 series has bubbling clear coat on the roof. I was just wondering if it is safe to go over it with a DA or should I not go over it at all?
ya show us a photo. I have taken m DA to some bubbling clear coat before with no problems. other times flaking clear coat just flakes more. you will likely see some paint residue on the pad, just like you would get with single stage paint. if it was me, I would take the DA to it. The clear coat is bubbling and it needs sanding and repainting anyways. you can't make it much worst. maybe removing oxidization will make it look better.

That, my friend, is what we call "clear coat failure". That will need a repaint (there is a recent thread where someone DIY'd their fender). Cee Dog also tried protecting the failed area with Opti-Coat, I forget how that turned out.
But yeah, you can polish over it--you'll take off some basecoat in the failed areas, and you may or may not flake off more clear from the edges. Also likely to get some polish residue in the edges.
