Question When to do vinyl/rubber/plastic trim protectant?

Say I wanted to do a full exterior detail including wash / clay / polish / sealant / wax and dress all the rubber/vinyl/plastic trim with a protectant.

I'm going to want to tape all of the trim so I don't get any polish or wax on it. Do I treat the trim before I polish and then tape? Will the tape stick? Do I do it after the wax step? What if I get some on the freshly waxed paint? How about sometime in the middle of the process?

    What do you do?

    Thanks

usually I would dress after removing tape. The light painter tape doesnt stick all that well to most protected trim.

If you get some trim dressing on the paint just wipe it off with a good mf and your detail spray.

That's what works for me. Trim detail is the 2nd to last thing I typically do. Any drips or mistakes are wiped with mf and spray, then I finish with windows.

We all have a method to our madness and here's mine without getting into allot of detail.

    • Full interior including glass
    • Wheels and tires
    • Wash
    • Exterior finish
    • Trim
    • Exterior glass
    • Wheels and tires (rubber and wheel wax)
