Auto detailing really takes lot of patience, time, and work

One day, I spent 4-5 hours detailing and afterwards I felt exhausted and felt little crazy that i did this on a car (especially the fact its not a show car and i live in rainy seattle) and wondering if I should just wash my car every two weeks and maybe wax every 2-4 months and use the remaining time on what i usually do which is play tennis, read, or excercise. I like the process of cleaning etc and having a nice shiny car but the weather down here is so dark and gloomy, the shine really has no purpose (on rare occasions it is , it does look great). People always get on my case of spending too much time on the car and neighbors think i'm nuts washing it so many times (im sure you'll be saying who cares what they think).. and they always telling me cars depreciate over time and also the unexpected accidents (minor or big). the cost of modfiying and detailing kind of makes me wonder if it's all worth it or not.. Also being a daily driver.. my miles seem to keep getting high (37500 k miles in 2.5 years!! is that a lot?) and just the anxiety of something happening to the car (like some fool giving me door dents, or hit and run (which i've experienced both) kind of makes me just step back away from the garage.. On the other hand, I plan on owning my car for long time because I do like it and thinking of jumping into auto detailing to preserve the car despite people saying it gets depreciated as time goes on (especially mileage)... and really do not like the car payments.... man that alone should make me scrubbing, huffing and puffing.. so with my last statement stated.. i'll just continue this journey... just seems like backbreaking work... not your videogame, tennis hobby..

Its like any hobby, you get out of it, what you put in it.

I do detailing part time and whether it's my car or a customers car their is nothing like taking a step back once your done and looking at what you created and being so happy and proud of what you did. Then you get to see the customers face and you realize it was all worth it.

I have done a few thousand cars in my career and I still get jazzed at what they look like after 4 hours work ! Even when it's a $10K car.

Their houses must be dirty too..
I plan on keeping my truck for a long time also, and I definitely know that what I am doing presently to keep it like new, will help keep it in great condition for the years to come.
New vehicles these days have a built in expiration date..

    also from Seattle...

I wash my white car... at least weekly... and Yes... sometimes during a Seattle rain...
even in the "Seattle Gloom" a clean white looks better... even glows...

    yes... the neighbors wonder... wink/smile...
