I have never used a machine to help with detailing my cars. And I have seen a lot fo great results from others using machines here, can a novice use a machine to polish and or wax?

You bet! I use the Flex 3401, and I haven't destroyed anything yet . From what I understand, the PC is also a pretty good choice. I would stay away from a rotary unless you have experience (but that's just me).

any Random Orbital will be better than hand polishing, even novices find the new tool a wonderful item.

Re: polishing question...
If you can swing the initial cost, go Flex. Its twice as powerful as PC. If you dont wanna spend that much the G110 or PC but you will likely want a Flex sooner than later. ROB's are quite safe but you need alot of time and patience, the Flex reduces that quite a bit and keeps most hobbist away from rotaries that usually are best left to professional.

Are you just doing your personal cars? If so, a pc would be fine. Cheaper than a flex and youll probably use it only once or twice a yr. Yes, you can apply wax with a pc.

Random Orbital Buffers are best used for polishing the paint or cleansing the paint prior to protection. You can use them for wax application and removal also as wanted. If using only for waxing, consider the lower priced items but for proper polishing get the extra power of the Flex.

It would only be my car maybe family members cars...
Can I damage the paint when polishing with a flex? Any possible damage using it for anything else? I am thinking that the only way I cam damage the finish is with a cut pad and a rotoary?
