Question about Megs pads
Hi Folks,
Quick question here. Last pads I used on my porter cable were the Megs soft buff W8006 type 6.5" diameter. I am thinking of getting the newer low profile megs pads in 5" diameter and wonder if this is a sound idea? I gather these pads are more efficient.
Also, I noted that the backing plates for the 5" pads are well, 5". I always used to use a 4.75" plate with my 6.5" pads. Will this new combo be alright to use?
Thank you all for the advice, I really appreciate it!

Re: Question about Megs pads
The Meg's 5" Soft Buff pads (DFC5, DFP5, and DFF5) are actually about 5 1/2" diameter. They will work fine with a 5" backing plate.
The pads have a 5" velcro backing and the foam has a radius that extends out from there resulting in the 5 1/2" overall diameter.

Re: Question about Megs pads
I like going with the thinner pads for paint correction using the PC

Thank you. It seems that pads are trending towards thinner for more efficiency etc...from what I am seeing. Appreciate the reply!

And the Megs MF Discs are good, too.

Re: Question about Megs pads
5" pads will work fine with a 4.75" BP.
And, as 2Black said...5.5" even better, 'specially with thin foam pads.
I'd also agree with thinner pads.

Re: Question about Megs pads
The standard rhetoric on the PC is "not enough power".
I disagree. The PC is a capable machine.
I prefer to think of it as: Other machines have more power.
That said, any advantage you can supply the PC with (Like a smaller rotational load with the 5 1/2" pads) will be an advantage.
It is no coincidence that man's best friend cannot talk.
