Any particular reason you like Onyx?

I hope this post doesn't get me in trouble as NV Onyx is not sold here, I just love sharing information about detailing products.

I love this product for a couple of reasons. The consistency of Onyx is somewhere between a gel and a more liquid product, like moisturizer cream. So it can be added to an applicator easily without mess.

From there, it just distributes so well. I have used countless tire dressings, out of all of them, Onyx covers the rubber with minimal working.

The finish can be matte to satin gloss, but never excessively glossy. It dries with no greasiness.

And the caramel smell is amazing.

This stuff is from an Australian brand but believe it is now distributed in the USA.

Do we prefer a water based product?

I like water based solutions like Duragloss 253. It goes on easy and seems to actually penetrate the rubber and make it healthier without leaving a greasy, shiny mess. You can adjust the amount of shine by how much you apply. I've yet to use a product that holds up as long and resists weather better than 253.

    Bingo.

I think everyone looking for "The best tire dressing" needs to try 253 at least once. If not, you are missing out on an outstanding (and severely underrated) product, IMO.
It is no coincidence that man's best friend cannot talk.

I have 253 in my cart, waiting for a good sale. I’m also curious about the one that Roger is using as well. I just don’t want to spend 2-3 hours cleaning my tires only for it to turn brown, been there done that!
