I don’t go to car shows anymore. I love nice cars, classic cars, and can talk quite fluently about engines, model years, etc. but I can’t seem to have a decent conversation with anyone at these swirl shows.

When I kindly mention my detailing business to most folks at cars and coffee its taken as a challenge to their ability to care for their own car. I am told they do their own detailing. Their cars are actually swirled-out disasters with exhaust tips that haven’t been touched in a year.

I know my posture is just another angle of car snobbery, but I have checked out of car shows. They drive me nuts.

I wouldn't let the condition of the car discourage you from going to the shows/gatherings. Leave your professional "hat" at home and simply enjoy seeing the cars themselves regardless of the condition. When you're passionate and well-versed in your topic it will always be frustrating to engage with those who aren't. Just meet them where they are, share your opinion, and move on. Those aren't the venues to try and change opinions.

I have similar discussions with "car guys" I know. We get talking about cars and I start to discuss steering feel, body control, and weight balance, and everyone's eyes turn glassy and they start to doze off. At that point I back off and say something like, "It rides great!" and leave it there. The rest of my thoughts are saved for a conversation with the guys I know at the Autocross event who will get it.

buddy of mine has convertible BMW of some sort, little white two door......I casually mentioned that I would love a shot at bringing the finish back..... and with the look on his face, you'd think I just told him his kid was as ugly as a fried boot
