I think I just used too much and will go lighter next time.
I think that my early mistake with using an sio2 spray was using it like I would a quick detailer. I learned early on and every now and then forget that a little goes a long way.
If black is polished and coated it will still look good from a distance when somewhat dirty.
Pollen , mud and salt residue (in winter) will mess with any cars appearance.
I polished my 2004 black heap 2 years ago then coated with Uk3 and Gliss.
I think it has been 2 weeks since I washed it. It is a daily, 24/7 weather taker and walking to it in the grocery lot, it still looks better than most.
Polishing and coating go a long long way on black if taken care of. The worst thing to do is wash it in the sun and get the milkys, then black sucks.
My way of dealing with Black vehicles is
to really take-to-heart the lyrics found
in George Harrison’s version of: ”Got My Mind Set on You” (org: ca. 1987)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“…it's gonna take money
A whole lotta spending money
It's gonne take plenty of money
To do it right…
It's gonna take time
A whole lot of precious time
It's gonna take patience and time…”
I played the hell out of this album in 4th or 5th grade. Thanks for the memories!
Satisfaction w black often depends on how closely you look at your car.
1 inch away you'll be happy for 5 minutes after a wash.
1 foot away you'll be happy for a few hours after a wash.
1 yard away and you can get a day or 2.
10 feet away, maybe a week.
Have had numerous black cars over the years; for one dismal stretch had 4 at the same time. While there are things you can do to lessen the burden in the end it shows everything.
I'm over it...metallic gray paint is much easier on the 'ol OCD-afflicted melon.
Speaking of ca. 1987:
[Disclaimer: It’s a wonder (Wife says
miracle) that I can still remember quite a
bit of what went on around me yesterday.]
•Here you were in the 4th or 5th grade,
and I had already been out of College
for two decades! :g asp:
I have to agree with most. Black is the most difficult especially to perfectionists, which I'm almost. I tried many otc sprays and 99% would streak. Only recently, after ordering pinnacle Souveran paste and detail spray from autogeek did I no longer streak or have ghosting. Nothing looks better than black. But I only recommend for garage, non-daily vehicles. Otherwise you'll be crazy. Hang in there. Good luck.
