Re: Griot's (Cerakote) Trim Coat Wipes

I'm not sure I'd use this product again. In direct light, it's too glossy. Out of the sun/light, it looks good. The problem with Cerakote IMO is it can be streaky if you don't apply it right and that can be tough to do. You also can't remove it once it is on. I was told the only way to remove is non acetone nail polish remover with a magic eraser.

Overall I'm happy with it, but not sold as it being the best option.

I agree. I just used this to restore trim on a 10 year old compact SUV. I kept it to textured plastics.

On the rear bumper plastic it came out ok. I actually like it. But on the textured plastics on the roof rack and a couple pieces near the windows the product streaked and you can see finger marks, etc in it.

I am convinced the product itself is ok, but the delivery method of a single soaked mini towel of product is not the best method. Give it to me in a little bottle and let me use my own applicator where I can control the amount of product being applied. Same as applying a ceramic coating.

I have a bunch of packets left so I will probably attempt to use them again in the future on selective plastics but I will not be purchasing again.

    Griot's (Cerakote) Trim Coat Wipes

Yeah agreed on delivery method. Was streaky for me at first till i got the hang of it.

Just FYI was easier if pulled out and unfolded. More surface area. Was to glossy at first but now down to more of a sheen. Good look .... at least on the Rav4 black cladding.

I like to use AF saver applicators to apply everything. More control. Would be great if came in a bottle but i like to try different coatings so may give Gtechniq or Gyeon a try next.

My other concern is when this stuff starts to break down, how does it look? Does it just wear off unevenly? As much as I wanted something permanent, now I'm back to wondering if the water based type products are better lol.

I also hope it fades over time. Right now it looks great when the sun is not shining on it. When the sun hits it, it's very glossy. Definitely a solid layer of protection.

The more I look at it in the sun the more I dislike it.

Going to have to live with it now....at least 2 years.

I doubt it will be 2 years. Most hear will tell you your lucky if you get manufacturer l’s claimed durability.

The gloss on the rav4 back off in a month. I like the look but different manufacturers trims might react differently.

From what i’mv read about trim coatings is that they just fade down over time.

You were right, the gloss settled down a lot.
