    As for applicators, I'll throw in my go-to favorite for almost anything that has to do with paint finishes.

    I'll cut a microfiber towel (or sometimes cotton terry) that I can then fold to the desired size with enough layers to even and spread any finger pressure points.

    I dislike foam applicators for that very reason... They're mostly too thin and too soft to even and spread any finger pressure during use.

    This obsession of mine to "finger pressure" is a product of my painting background where finger pressure during sanding is something that you do everything you can to avoid. That same philosophy carries over for me anytime I'm doing anything to a painted surface.
