Duragloss 253 - Questions inside about use

So Ive seen enough people talk about DGs 253... I think Im going to be a convert from PERL to 253 - but only if this is true...

Does DG253 dry to the touch? It seemed to stay wet for a while and didnt try. I had to towel it off, which in turn obviously removed some product. Maybe I used too much when I applied it? I left it for about 10 mins or so - maybe need to leave it longer?

If this dried similar to PERL, then I might replace PERL with this.

As soon as my PERL runs out I'm going to go 253. Looking forward to the water resistance

I'm assuming you are talking about applying it to tires?

It does dry to the touch. Just not instantly. 10-20 minutes depending on your climate conditions.

Only use just what you need to coat the tire. A foam applicator works best to get a nice, thin coat IMO

Can I use a brush like Eldo does to apply it?

Sure. But I would go pretty light with it.

I like using a flag tipped bristle brush to apply DG 253, such as the one pictured below. I got that tip from someone on this forum (I think it was Eldo), makes application a breeze. Just spray into the brush and go around the tire. If you have super low profile tires a mothers detailing brush might be more suitable. I'm currently running 40 series tires and the brush works great.

As Paul mentioned it does take a few minutes to dry depending on your environment. I always wipe down my wheels with some sort of spray wax/QD afterwards anyways and by the time I'm done the tires are dry. Apply multiple coats for more gloss, if desired.

Been using it for years and have found none better. I use the flagged tip brush method. About 3-4 sprays per tire. Spray directly on the brush. Then apply. The brush method is a godsend for aggressive off road tires. And #253 as never slung on me. I do not wipe it after applying.Duragloss 253 - Questions inside about use-thumbnail-2-jpg

I used 2 sprays per tire and the Car Pro Tire Swipe Applicator. This was the following morning. I've got less tire to cover than pro 4x.

I've been a long time user of 253 also. I use a tire applicator to apply, but may have to give a brush a try.

Re: Duragloss 253 - Questions inside about use

I was a long time user of 253 and thought I'd try out PERL...I can't wait for my PERL to run out and get back to 253.

I've always applied it very thin with a foam applicator. Since I like a dark, matte appearance, I never had to apply it thick or in layers. In hot weather it will dry pretty quickly if you apply it thin.

Something to keep in mind too is the sidewall of the tire. Not every tire, even in the same brand/manufacturer, is the same. I had a set of Continentals whose sidewalls never seemed to do well with a tire dressing. I've got a set of Michelins on my car now which seem to behave in a similar way, while the Muchelins on my wife's car are just fine.
