He offered to fly me to Pittsburgh :)
I thought this was kinda funny, I'm pretty green.
Some of you may have noticed that I'm new here and learning about the world of detailing. I'm a member of a couple of bike forums and I shared a before and after pic of a quarter panel I did on a truck.
A fella got all excited, sent me a pic of his '14 Cadillac and asked if he could fly me out to detail his car!!
I immediately encouraged him to find a more experienced detailer in his area.
As folks are hearing that I'm getting into this, I am being propositioned, and I don't even have plans of doing this for money. I'm an HD enthusiast, here to learn how to better care for my sled.

That will only get worse, all your friends and family will start giving hints they'd like you to do their cars. It's up to you how to proceed, I normally tell them they can't afford me and they leave me alone. It's too much of a PITA to do, I do my car but not because I like it, I just do it because the results are worth it. But I don't want to do the same to other people's car, I know a week later they'll take it to the swirl inducing tunnel and mess it all up again.
Only other car I've worked on is my brother's Porsche, mainly because it's a nice car. His car was a good start as it had been corrected and coated by a pro in the past.

i don't know that I would want to do it for money, but I'd have to think it would be a nice gift if I wanted to bless a friend a family member

Go with it!
Here's some free advice. If you end up getting deep into the "detail thing" - change your forum nickname.

Wow!
Hard to believe I wrote that 11 years ago as I type today on March 31st, 2021

My neighbors hint at me all the time how much would it cost for me to do their vehicles. I won't do it though, just family and some friends... It's nice compliment to hear though that they think its good work

^^This^^
There are parts of the detailing process that I like, but to be quite honest there are more parts that are just a pain in the a$$.
But liike Bruno said, it is well worth the effort.
I'm not jumping up and down with joy when I have to mow the lawn, but I'm not going to let my grass grow to 2 feet tall and make my property look like crap either. I think of detailing kind of the same way. Lol
It is no coincidence that man's best friend cannot talk.

You guys are nuts, I go to bed dreaming about detailing (multi stage corrections, NO INTERIORS)
Constantly analyzing vehicles in traffic, parking lots ect.
Ripping through your mind like a hurricane full of novocaine

Lol. You have no clue.
Actually, machine polishing probably my favorite part because I am a "tool guy".

I agree. I’ve been approached many times in the parking lot at work (back when I actually went to the office) asking where I had my truck detailed. When I told them I did it myself the next question was usually how much to do their vehicle. I tell all of them that I only do my own vehicles and don’t really have the time to do others.
The only other vehicles I detail regularly are my dad’s trucks, which are both black F150 Supercrews (four door). They take a lot of time, but he loves the way they look afterwards and gets tons of compliments on them so it’s worth it. I gave him strict instructions never to take them through the swirl-o-matic washes, so they usually stay in pretty good shape between polishes.

Yeah i get asked how i keep my cars so shiny and i’ve been lying and say i go to a detailer. Had alot of friends asked me to do it and it’s funny cuz it’sxa hobby on my car and a chore on others.
