    Question on new paint

How long do you need to wait to wash or add protection to new paint? What wash or No rinse and when can you use wax, sealant or Sio2?
Car was painted a few days ago.

Gas off times are usually 30 days but I'd put it to 45 or so if it's cool/fall out where you are.

You can still however polish, correct and add protection, just use something silicon free. 3D AAT 505 basically new-paint safe version of their HD Speed Product.

The average wait time is 30 days.

The idea being to not SEAL the surface until all out-gassing of any solvents has taken place to enable the paint to come to full cure and full hardness.

Like mentioned, you can wash, compound and polish but avoid any product that "seals" the surface.

That said, I've never seen fresh paint fail because it was sealed before 30 days.

I probably have 3-4 articles on this topic, here's one

Don't wax your car for at least 30 days!

I haven't seen the above article for a while - I was surprised to see how many vintage videos are in it.

I'd ask the person who painted it.

    Re: Question on new paint

Most modern paint shops will heat bake the paint job making it safe to wax without waiting the traditional 30 days to out gas.

You can use any wash that is not a wash & wax version.

These two products are fresh paint safe. Used them on my car that was repainted and the paint is still on the car years later.

    Re: Question on new paint

I asked the bodyshop and they said to wait 3-4 weeks. Can I use ONR and then OCW? I am in CT and may not be able to do a regular wash.

    thanks

Just avoid anything with silicone in it for 30 days.
