This prolly should be directed to Mike, the master himself!
Did some research and kind of have an idea in mind but want to double check with the best...!
Task: Protect water line from scum and stains.
Owner's biggest concern is the dirt and scum at the water line. Boat is brand new---only used one season.
Inspected the boat today.
Hull gel coat is pristine. Owner will do waterless wash and have hull all ready for me.
I will only polish from rub rails down.
Have a couple of options:
1. Buff with Marine Captains compound/polish. Then apply marine 31 spray wax.
2. Buff with Marine Captain's compound/polish. The machine collinite boat wax.
3. Bypass Captain's compound/polish and just machine apply collinite boat wax.
4. Apply Dr Beasley Z1 to lightly clean hull and apply ceramic coating.
What should I do?
I am hovering between Z1 and Marine 31 Captain's compound/polish and spray wax.
You need to get some of the Pinnacle Black Label Surface Coating and/or Paint Coating. It's really nice stuff. I used the Surface Coating as a topper after the Z1 on this truck and I think I also breezed over the Bass Boat with it.
Conflicting information that seems not to be conflicting:
A.) Use products from the same family (brand name) of products to insure compatibility
B.) This product will work with any other siO2 product
I have heard both statements equally in my research into ceramic coatings.
Perhaps one is to assure that the consumer buys only products from one
company. And the latter being from
experienced detailers that have mixed and matched with no negative results (?).
*edit*
I recall Jim saying that other brands of coatings will be compatible with Z1.

Good question Craig. I ask Jim this question directly some place in this recent video.
While I am a fan of synergistic chemical comparability - sometimes even I throw all the rules out the window and live life on the edge of the razor blade instead of the blade of the butter knife.
