Can one ceramic coat single stage paint??
There’s an old caddy covert with very clean single stage paint. It look good as it is. Probably need a good cleaning and maybe a mild polish.
Just never occurred to me if one can actually lay down a coating on single stage paint.
BTW-I have not seen this. Someone was telling about it and was wondering if coating can be done.

I see no reason against such.
Maybe this past article from Mike P will help answer some of your questions.
Can you apply a ceramic coating to old school single stage lacquer paint?

I totally agree with 98CayanneTA. I always do at least a quick polish with Essence prior to coating with UK3.0. And yes I have coated numerous SS paints with a ceramic coating with no ill effects. I personally like waxing SS paints, but if a customer wants there vehicle coated, it’s getting coated.

Tom, you can. I have. You can sometimes run into blotchiness on some SS paint.
I've only run across this on one vehicle, Ferrari 308 in Rosso Corsa. Don't know if it was that particular paint, color or what, but it had some blotchy marks in certain areas after coating. I re-polished and re-coated and it seemed ok in a variety of lighting.
I'm still wary about doing it and as stated above, I prefer to wax or seal SS paint.

Re: Can one ceramic coat single stage paint??
Just to comment....
There's a reaction difference to OLD oxidized single stage paint versus any single stage paint that already has a hard shine.
There's also 2 different kinds of single stage paint.
Old school solvent evaporation single stage paint - this would be old school lacquer or enamel
Modern single stage URETHANE - like Toyota still uses for some of their white vehicles.
FWIW
And - Always do a TEST SPOT before trying to
- Chemically strip the paint
- Install the coating
Chemically striping some old single stage paint, in other words WIPING THEM WITH A SOLVENT - might tend to make the paint look dull. This is because they tend to me more porous and more susceptible to dulling via chemicals.

Thanks Mike...
That is why need to see the paint. Been repainted back in 70's or 80's. Not sure.
Thinking---Custom Urethane because of repaint.
Need to make sure it is not the old lacquer or enamel paint!
