Yep, we can send a man to the moon, but we can't stop water spots.
The more layers of toppers that you apply, the better protection. The added layers will act as a sacrificial layer and hopefully protect your clear coat from getting etched.
Search for sealants/waxes that are hydrophilic rather than being hydrophobic.

•I’ve had the best luck for water sheeting
to occur when I’ve used:
-Meguiar’s Gold Class Carnauba Paste Wax—
(not to be confused with Meguiar’s Gold
Class Carnauba Plus Paste Wax);
-Or: Optimum Opti-Seal

I live in S Florida. I have a black car and it sits outside 24/7 and to make matters worse it's not under cover and is exposed to full sun from noon till the sun sets. Your going to get water spots no mater what product you use. What matters is how easily those spots come off when you wash it.
I use Carpro Reset because it washes off most of the water spots. It works better than any of the other soaps that I have tried. Next is to use a waterless wash as your drying aid. It removes any remaining water spots as you dry. I use Ultima Acrylic waterless wash as the drying aid because it's Acrylic like the Klasse, Ultima Acrylic spray wax and Sonus products that I use to protect the car. Using all Acrylic products and not mixing different types of polymers creates synergy.
I happened upon this routine last May and it works great. No more chasing fifty water spots after I wash and dry the car. When I'm done the car is slick, glossy and spot free.
For me this combination is the holy grail for weekly maintenance washes.

Like Fun said..... sheeting is your answer.
In Europe they want sheeting from their products.

I'm on Detailing World, probably the biggest detailing forum in Europe and even the world and I don't see that.

I've not had many water spotting issues after moving from sealants to coatings. It could be the difference in climate, but the sheeting and general water properties of a good coating made things much better.
If there is something in the air like lots of pollen or dust, or my car is dirty, I'll get some spotting, but its gone when I wash the car the next time.
