Tried to polish pillar trim on my work van, and had some questions, please help?

I use the same pad, but I wash it first.

To be honest with you I don’t know if it has clear coat.

The polisher I’m using has 380 watts.
I’ll get it, just learning as I go.

Most pilliars (A/B) are not clear coated. It's a film and that's why the black shows on your pad. You can only imagine how thin it is, so least aggressive first.

... You mention not being able to get good pads or a polisher at this time. My tough-love advice would be to be patient and wait until you have the means to buy at least some good pads. Continually grinding away at it with questionable pads which may be too aggressive won't get you where you want to be and might actually make things worse to the point you can't fix it later.

Just go at it by hand with a fine finishing polish and/or AIO.

I get the feeling that many on this forum think you have to machine polish anything and everything to achieve great results. That is utter nonsense.

Hand polishing, while more time and effort dependent, can produce phenomenal results especially on small and isolated areas like the one being discussed here.

I use white terry cloth towel and dab of polish---works great!

Thanks man, yes this is kicking my butt to say the least.

Learning to correct is what taking me longer.
If I could learn this, it would accelerate my business in a lot of ways.

I hope I can get it, sometimes I feel discouraged man, but I’ll keep at it.

You all don’t get it, this would mean so much to me, to be able to say I got this would be sweet.

But hey, I have to wait.
I love cleaning cars, and making them look good again.

I’ve even considered selling my van, because I feel like a joke.

In the meantime to not get so worked up, I do stuff around home. I like to garden and BBQ, it calms my anxiety down.

I’ve tried to get lessons here San Antonio, but surprisingly no luck. If I have enough money I’ll go to AG seminar to improve my skills.

If I'm ever in your State - take the class. Instead of spending a lifetime trying to figure all this stuff out learn it in 2 days and move forward.

I bet that black is from the black plastic trim piece. I would tape that up before trying to polish the pillar.
