Newbie Detailing Question - Scatches on Hood

Hi guys – I used McGuiar’s M105/M205, and Ultimate Wax on my black ’06 Honda Civic. These products were used with the Makita DA polisher on speed setting 4 (~4800 rpm) forced rotation on the compound, and same speed non-forced rotation for the polish. While the car overall looks good, I’m not the least impressed with the front hood. The hood of my car (and only the hood) has several hundred little scratches that I just can’t seem to get off. My car is black, and these little markings were all appearing whitish/gray before my detail work, but after my first pass of the M105, the scratches all have a yellow tint to them.

I’m including a close-up image of what I’m talking about. The scratches range from 1mm in length all the way up to 1 inch, and it’s all over the front hood of my car. Not sure what caused these either? As the first and only owner of the vehicle, I have never previously compounded or polished the vehicle and am quite surprised it can get this bad over time.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of these little scratches would be greatly appreciate. Heavier compound? Wet sanding? Something else? I'm completely new to the detailing world and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

Those are cracks in the paint.

    Here's your picture

This is a KNOWN problem for the paint on Honda Hoods. Happened to me too on my Pilot.

Sad to say, there's nothing you can do to fix it except have the hood repainted. You could try a "colored wax". SONAX makes a good one and I think you can get it on Amazon.

Thank you so much for your response, Mike! Although it's not what I was wanting to hear, you did save me a whole lot of running around knowing there isn't much that can be done about it. It's silly that this would happen. Is it poor quality of the vehicle make? I'm so done with Honda's after this.... I've already changed the whole engine, and now this.

My buddy bought a brand new STI a few years ago and the paint failed on the trunk and rear roof in less than a year. They repainted it and he dumped it immediately.

Don't blame him.... Repainting can be costly.
