Is this normal for a new tire?

I put new tires on the wife’s X3 about 3-4 weeks ago and this is from the first deep cleaning with Meg D143.

    Thank you for any reply’s.

Looks like some mold release residue. Try cleaning with some strong APC or rubber cleaner.

I’ve not seen that, but new tires do funky things and I generally don’t apply anything to them for the first few months or couple thousand miles for that purpose. But never recall seeing things like this from cleaning.

They coat new tires in prep for shipping in storage with some funky green stuff. Usually takes a hell of a lot of scrubbing to get it off. Mike has a good post on using a DA w/ brush to get the crud off new tires. I personally just use one of the Mothers Tire Brushes (stiff bristle) and some good degreaser, soap and water and give them a good brushing and rinse. It will take several passes before you get everything off.

    Agreed.

I gave the Ram it's first real (2 bucket) wash since getting my new tires back on 7/18.

Brushed them with my tire brush and Meg's HW. They look splotchy and weird. But I know from past experience that this will wear off.

Not worried about it at all.

I clean new tires with Tarminator and all that gunk comes right off. I do that right after using a blade to remove all tire nibs and excess rubber from the molding. Then wash as usual and when done dress with Perl.

Re: Is this normal for a new tire?

Thanks everyone, I thought it was some kind of “coating” from the factory and mold release...I plan on hitting them with tire cleaner for the next couple of months until they finish doing their thang!

What are everyone’s thoughts on coating “run flats” since they have the ribs (insert joke here) running around the tire?

I’m considering Optimum TPC but it looks like a genuine pain in the posterior since cleaning is critical to a tire coating.

    Thanks again

As everyone else has said, ya it’s normal. I’d also recommend a good stuff brush with a good tire cleaner and or a rag with some mineral spirits or kerosene. Tires will be squeaky clean!
