I think for paint that old, microfiber is almost a necessity. If not just for the hardness of a lot of those paints but also the massive amounts of residue and build up from embedded dirt.

Willsports3---Thanks for the microfiber pad recommendation, It did the trick. Took out most of the scratches and all the embedded dirt!

Tried the Rupes blue pad first---didn't even make a dent in removing the scratches!

I'm not a fan of microfiber pads, but geez this one did the job! And fast too!

The Camaro looks great,,a lot of people hate on doing white but when it is severely fouled up and you get results like that it's very satisfying,,great job

    Re: White 1981 Camaro

Original paint was found to be on the roof, trunk, the hood and the passenger side.
Did 3 steps on the original paint:
    1:Microfiber pad/Rupes compound.
2: Rupes yellow pad and yellow polish.
3: Rupes yellow pad and BlackFire One step.

The driver's side, front and rear bumpers were newer paint than the original. Did a one step job in those areas and it did perfect!

    Re: White 1981 Camaro

That looks like the sport coupe model for that year.
The Eight digit in the VIN code will tell you what engine it had in it originally.

Engine code with engine size and horsepower
    K 229-110
    A 231-110
    J 267-115
    H 305-150,CA
    H 305-165

I am kind of a Camaro geek full of useless info like that

TMQ, have you ever used the LC foamed wool pads? I know they were quite popular a few years back.

Also, on a car in that condition, a rotary might be the better tool to start out with for cutting.

    Dublows6---

Don't have a rotary so I have to run with what I have...

Thank goodness had some microfiber pads in the bin!

With all the cars that I have done, found very little to none use for heavy cutting pads and polishes!
