If you are going to detail for money, you will eventually need a Flex.
But a G9 is a great first machine to have.

Hold up Paul, I haven’t even mastered a polisher. I’m sure a Flex would end up spinning me around
I’m playing man, we’ll see how it goes. Remember all this is just too much a new guy to to learn. Funny part is, I have a local detail store that does classes and they never called me back. They charged $200.00 for a 4 hour lesson I believe.

It is nothing to be scared of. I promise you.
Would it be ideal to take a class? Sure.
Short of that, buy Mike P's book and read the hell out of it. Then watch his vid's. You will get the gist of it, and then it is time to just dive in.
All of us on here started that way. Me personally, I was actually laughing/kicking myself for being too timid about starting as I was about 5 minutes into my first machine polish.
There are things you will learn for yourself along the way, but that all depends on the tool, products, and what kind of paint you are working with.
Bottom line is: Machine polishing is not rocket science. And the more you do, the more you learn.
Starting here on AGO, and asking all of the questions you have asked, you already have a huge jumpstart over someone that has not joined/lurked on the forum. That is a fact.

For sure, I’m get a Griots Garage G9 for sure. Actually I’m run it by the wife first, as far as our budget. I got set back ordering that little 3”, didn’t know it wasn’t worth it.
Paul, what’s the difference from a car needing a compound correction vs just needing a polish?

You can still use that 3" for certain things. It's not useless.
The severity of paint defects determines that.

Thanks Paul and all the members here.
Natural to be intimidated like I said.
The list of stellar AGO members who helped me as a newbie is a long one. I am just a hobbyist, and I certainly do not have all the answers. (Far from it).
All I can do is pay it forward as best I can.

I need to just order the machine and punch myself later
Once I get it, I’m be on here asking for techniques like how to polish around corners, lines etc.
My friend has a black car Kia Optima, I’m ask him if he wants a polish
