Sacrificial Wax topper over Ceramic Coating for a 1,500 mile road trip?
Heading out on Roughly a 1,500 mile road trip soon... New White Maserati Ghibli that has Gtechnic Crystal serum light and EXO on it... Anything to be gained putting a quick coat of Carnauba wax on it before leaving?

I think a change in looks or ‘maybe’ additional protection against bird bombs or water spots... but that is a huge variable and I don’t know anything about gtechniq. I just know some ceramics may allow etching that maybe a Sealant or wax could help prevent...
I don’t think you care about gaining a different type of look for this trip. So as far as protection, it’s a lot of ‘maybe helpful’ talk and you are sacrificing self-cleaning. I don’t think most coating users would top with carnauba.

Thanks for the response! I may just leave it alone and clean it all up when the trips over....

I would let the coating do what it is going to do! Perhaps do a quick clean up during your trip, or when you arrive. A waterless/rinseless/etc. I would just let it be!
Safe travels and keep us posted!

I would not hesitate to put a sacrificial spray wax on it before the trip.....wait, my decision was based off of with a car like that I would just have to be touching it all the time. Coming up with reason to wax it hahaha Safe travels

I’m going to estimate that even a quick
coat of a Carnauba Wax is going to last
around 3-6 weeks.
The question I have is: Can you live with
the Carnauba Wax’s innate characteristics—
for a short time period—without going bonkers
for the lack of the Coating’s characteristics in
the interim?
If not:
Why not go with a more temporary protection by
using something like BlackFire Bug Blocker, or
some transit film, on the most vulnerable areas?

To me the carnuba is not really going to do much from a protection stand point. I think you would be better off putting temporary ppf or painters tape on high impact areas if you really want to protect the finish.

Re: Sacrificial Wax topper over Ceramic Coating for a 1,500 mile road trip?
Got a little side tracked and forgot to update this!So the combination of Gtechniq's Crystal serum light and EXOv4 worked great! We had a little of everything on the ride, bugs, dust and rain! At one point the water was literally flying off the hood as we drove, my wife was life wow! Car still looked pretty good upon arrival too! It cleaned up ultra easy too! I hit the car with G's W6 Iron remover just to see if we picked up some contamination along the way... None! Car was silky smooth with a ton of gloss too. The only thing that was a mess were the wheels! I had coated them a few times with Blackfires Si02 wheel seal before the trip and it didn't do much! Granted 18 hours or so of driving without a wash is pretty extreme compared to what I normally do, combined with the car being new and having huge Brembo brakes it is probably not a fair evaluation... The brake dust was caked on!!! Took several cleanings, a lot of brushes, a bottle of Sonax and the rest of the Gtechniq W6 and they still could be better!!! I think for the return trip in September I am going to try Gtechniq's wheel coating for the goof... I will say I am so pleased with The Gtechniq combo, I am going to coat the white car we leave outdoors year round at our vacation home for the fun of it! Previously I used Xpel's Fusion and this was much easier to apply and potentially as durable, certainly more hydrophobic.... Thanks again for the help!
