Help me with new polisher Makita PO5000 or Flex3401

    Hey guys,

I am in the market for a new polisher, I have been doing a bunch of reading and think I have it narrowed down to these 2. I think somewhere I read about a replacement for the Flex that runs cooler than the 3401 but I can't seem to find anything about that, I think it was an xce9 or something possibly?

I have a Makita rotary currently and I need to replace my PC DA polisher that bit the dust.

My goal is to try and find as close to an all in one machine as possible with the fastest and best correction ability.

Can you use different size backing plates on either of these units possibly down to 3" also what products/pads are recommended for each of these?

    Thanks!
    Frank

Get the BEAST or the Supa BEAST.

That's just my opinion, I know some guys really like 5mm gear-driven.

Me? I can plow through a detail job with 8mm so fast.

    Hey Mike,

That Supa Beast looks awesome! I believe that is what I will be ordering!

Would you be so kind as to help me out with products/pads/towels/backing plates etc that will work best for this guy. I have been out of the detailing game for awhile now and I have a bunch of meguiars products and pads, I'm not even sure they are still good.

I am not trying to be lazy, I am doing my own research but would appreciate your recommendations as I see there is a sale on the store site for the next few hours and I would love to save some money!

    Thanks again!

    Hello,

I wish I would have bought the 3401 over the Makita. I used the Makita twice and haven’t touched since. I went back to using my porter cable.

I’m not Mike but here you go!

FLEX XCE 10-8 125 Corded Polisher

I would add the 6 inch backing plates so you ca run 6.5 inch pads.

FLEX XFE 7-15 6 inch Backing Plate

I know Mike likes the LC Force Hybrid pads as I am also a big fan for these machines.

Lake Country Hybrid Power Finish Ultra Performance Pad System, buffing pads, foam pads, polishing pads

    Hope that helps
    Jim

    Interesting.

Given the choice between the Makita PO5000C and a Porter Cable, depending upon the job I'd probably go with the Porter Cable too.

With a 5" backing plate and thin pads, the PC is still a very capable tool.
