    Metal Polish - Exhaust Tips

I tried to polish up my chrome exhaust tips today with some California Customs Purple Polish. Started with a microfibre towel and there appeared to be a ‘rough’ spot show up on both tips. I don’t know if I induced this or it was already there. I then progressed to a soft foam pad in case the towel scratched it and caused it. Nothing I did would remove it or even slightly improve the appearance. All was done hand.

What do you think it could be? Any ideas to fix? Photos below.

My fear is I’ve ‘burnt’ through some sort of coating. I did not rub for long and I didn’t think my combinations by hand were overly aggressive.

    Thanks!

The best thing to do is takeoff the tips and take them to a body shop and have them put it on a wheel with some polish, that will tell you if it’s an anomaly in the the chrome or if it can be polished out. Shouldn’t be more than 50 bucks.

Not a bad idea. If I take them off maybe I can have another crack with my 3” DA instead of by hand before taking to a shop. I have a feeling it might just be an anomaly in the finish of the tips and the polish has just emphasized it… but I could be wrong.
