    Road film removal

My white Accord is slowly getting a nasty road film build-up. What should I use to clean it? I plan on doing complete decon in the next month with either Sonax fallout cleaner or Iron X as part of the clay, polish and sealant. But I can't go another week with a gray rear!

Should I just use a diluted APC? If so what kind have you used successfully

    Re: Road film removal

I’ve had success with alkaline soaps. Bilt Hamber Autofoam and Mckees coating prep remover are the ones i have on hand.

Others have had success with diluted APC’s. Start 10-1 and work your way to stronger dilution if necessary.

I've never tried to remove actual road film on car paint by any other means except to mechanically abrade it - in other words - polish the paint.

    Is the car white?

If so, do me a favor and place a tape-line down the middle of a panel like the hood and then get up high on a ladder and take a picture like this,

    One half covered and taped-off

    Before and after results

Of course you won't be showcase the before and after difference in the removal of oxidation like I did above, but if there is in fact a good or noticeable layer of road film on the paint then you should be able to capture it with your phone camera or an actual camera.
