    Bought a Griot’s G9, a couple simple questions.

I switched from my trusty 7424XP to the G9.

I had been using 5.5” LC pads with the 7424, and have a sizable collection of pads at this point.

Question 1: A new G9 supplies you with a 6” backing plate. Is it worth the few hundred dollars in investment to immediately switch to 6.5”?

Question 2: Has anyone had any problems pairing Lake Country pads to a Griot’s backing plate?

I've used several Lake pads on my previous generation GG 6" in. polisher with no issue. Also, I personally think 5.5 is a better size than 6.5. I have 6.5 but wish it would have came with 5.5. if I didn't have such a pad investment in 6.5 I would switch to 5.5.

I would get the 5” backing plate for the G9... then you can keep your pads. I’ve never liked the 6.5” pads.

I have a GG 6, and with the 5” backing plate, I use all kinda of pads, including LC. No compatibility issues.

Yeah most used a 5” backing plate on gg6 and are using a 5” on this. Especially if you have all those pads

Get the 5” backing plate and keep using your pads.

I have a g9 I put a 5" plate on it for curvy cars. I left the 6" on the other, since it has tons of power and will work better on flatter panels.
I have not used my 15mm since I got the g9's.

You'll be good to go with the 5 in. plate and pads, Eric.

I would only consider investing in the 6" pads if you were doing very large, flat panels. (Think the sides of vans or large pickups).
It is no coincidence that man's best friend cannot talk.
