    Sealant on a tombstone

I know this has nothing to do with cars but would adding sealant to a tombstone keep it from weathering as much?

I would assume it would help.

    Doesn't Thompsons make such?

I would think that a tombstone formed from stone or granite, and having already been around for millions of years, would get a chuckle from man's feeble attempt to help it protect itself from the elements.....

I think i would just vinyl wrap it with some metallic. It would be one of a kind.

Headstones aren't naturally shiny, they are polished. Also some have paint in the lettering and staining can occur.

    Point taken.

A sealant would certainly hinder the weathering in the short-term.

Now if you could only set up a schedule for reapplication for the next few thousand years........

I have to clean our family plot headstone and the individual markers about every 5 years or so, due to biological agents such as mold/mildew. My gen is the "Last of the Mohicans", so when we're gone it will all be subject to Mother Nature's whims.

Besides staining, acid rain and pollution can cause serious damage to granite, marble, etc.

I just want to keep it looking good as long as my mother is still with us.
