Insist that they put “no wash” on the work order too. That’s what I did and it worked.

Luckily my dealership doesn't even offer washes for normal maintenance visits.

Re: Dealers “man with a towel” got me!

I watched a lady at a gas station try to wash most of her dirty car with the windshield squeegee sponge and try to dry it with the other side. I had to cringe. Those are the kind of people who should have dealer wash their car. Sad you had to go through that but looks good now.

Re: Dealers “man with a towel” got me!

Things I saw today at work from the "detail crew":

Taking an old, dirty brush out of a bucket of wash that was used several times and black with dirt, and slapping it on the black paint of a brand new special-order F-350 Platinum Tremor.
I guess it's no big deal right? The sticker price is only $79,780.

Using a HF polisher with a dirty, chewed-up 8" foam pad (which only vibrates, no spinning) on a newer (2019) black Mustang.

A guy eating his lunch in a customers car he was "detailing".

    True story.

That’s just horrifying!! Especially the brush part.

Funny thing is, people are just thrilled when they see the shiny paint, clean glass, and hi-gloss tire slop.

    They have no clue.

But yeah, I cringe and shake my head when I see what I saw today. (Most days) lol

Re: Dealers “man with a towel” got me!

On my last oil change the desk gurl thought she’d be nice and wipe a decent size smudge off of my door with a dirty shop rag. The swirls!

I ran into the pit and was shouting NO NO NO NO as nice as possible. The pit jerk was like you can’t be here! I was like unless you wanna pay for a polish and recoat of my door i’ll go where the F i want.

I did get to educate the girl and the head tech on why. Sprayed down with N-914 and then showed them in sun the swirls that she added. I didn’t make a big deal out of it as the girl felt really bad. Was a simple fix for me and I’m not a what can you do for me guy.

Just asked to educate their people on how easy paint is to scratch and made sure she was in no trouble. She was just trying to be nice to the pretty car.

Re: Dealers “man with a towel” got me!

LOL I just was at the salon and got into a small conversation with the nail tech about how I detail on the side (why my nails were messed up LOL). She said she takes her car through the car wash (oh course).
Somehow the conversation wen to what I actually did... that I don’t just wash cars. I explained how I correct paint. How I get out swirls, scratches, and imperfections in the paint, etc. She asked how a car gets swirls and I said, “well, from taking your car through the car wash for one”...
