    Denatured alcohol paint safe?

My buddy had a line-x bed liner sprayed, there is some over spray... They said for him to use denatured alcohol to remove it.

I didn't think this stuff was safe for clear coat, is it?

It depends on dilution and just as important DWELL TIME.

My guess is if you use it with common sense it will be safe to use to remove the overspray.

Get some and then test an area.

Thanks. In terms of dwell, if we use it to wipe it off, rub it etc, what's the best way to neutralize it? Food the area with water?

Just stay away from any rubber seals and trim. And then what Mike said.

If you get a damage on the sidewall of the tire when driving against something with like a curb. You can take some denutured alcohol on a rag and gently aggitate the damage on the rubber tire. And you kind of desolves the edges of the rubber damage and you revive it to look good again. So imagine getting this on a rubber seal and it's dwelling there. That would be not so good. So have the hose out too and rinse it off very thoroughly directly after the you have done what you where doing.

•On the occasions that I’ve used denatured
    alcohol as a cleaner/degreaser/etc. {yes, it
    is a really versatile substance} I didn’t notice
where it caused any visible harm to BC/CC
    paint systems.

-Yet despite its versatility, Denatured Alcohol
    is extremely flammable.

•As such, (and that’s reason enough, IMO):
-I feel denatured alcohol is better suited
for use as a fuel for camp stoves, etc.

-Why risk having a chance spark, set-off
    unwanted fireworks? There are numerous
other, less volatile, “paint cleaners” from
which to choose—>AGO has tons of ‘em.

When I had my truck bed sprayed by Line-x in 2012 I got home and noticed small bit over overspray on the painted tailgate. I went back to the shop and he used denatured alcohol and a microfiber. Worked great. No problems
