What’s new or latest advances?

Haven’t been around this (or any detailing) forum for a couple of years or more. For reference, coatings were just coming on the scene. What would y’all say are the greatest advances in the detailing world? Best new products? Changes in thought/new processes?

I was wandering thru some vehicle-specific forums recently and saw many mentions of TopCoat F11 and most of them were quite positive as far as the user experience goes. Obviously these were just casual users who wished not to delve into the specifics/cost v benefit of other options nor the chemical makeup of the product nor were they concerned much with longevity. Many of the owners are in the 'hobby car' segment and some have been using the product for quite some time now and extremely happy with the results.

Obviously the over-the-top marketing and somewhat spurious claims of the mfg turn many off but is a product truly 'bad' if there are indeed many satisfied users out there who, regardless of price and the availability of 'better' (and what really defines 'better' anyway?) options are, in the end, quite happy?

Just because many of us who live in the 'detailing rabbit hole' find things that work better (in a variety of ways) is a product truly 'bad' if it does have many happy users who could care less about some of the things we find vital regarding a products performance? They rub the F11 on their car and are happy as can be until the next wash, regardless of silicone, questionable longevity, or cost; isn't that part of all this detailing stuff, that is, every time you look at your car it makes you smile?

That said, I've never tried F11 nor some other other brands that people disparage with regularity but for every detail-oriented person who raises and eyebrow at something I'd guess there's a regular user of said product who is quite satisfied with what it does for them. I dunno, maybe for thoes folks who don't "know any better" ignorance is bliss...

It's so hard with what's the best. And more what's the best for you.

Full blown ceramic coatings is almost a term now as some brands says it's a coating even if it has a minor amount of the coating chemicals in it. I see it as and think many others here see it also a full blown coating should give you at least over a year of really great performance from it. In protection and gloss and water behavior and self cleaning ability from it. The kind of new thing is that you have an option to go with a top coating that get you an even higher gloss and water behavior and self cleaning ability from it. Carpro CQUK 3.0 as the ceramic coating and their top coating Gliss. Gyeon has a kit called Gyeon Syncro where you have the ceramic coating Mohs and then the top coating Skin. And also some has released newer versions. Think that the newer versions often has an easier application and leveling of them generally speaking. A little difference in the maintance as you have it on for so long time. The cleaner and with less of products that leaves something behind as in protection and glossenhancers that degrade the performance of your coating is something that more get a hang of. And when the coating performance starts to slowly degrade you benefit from useing a topper to revive the coating performance and or some uses it as a maintance from the start.

These toppers is also quite good on it's own like a stand alone LSP. And you can get different longevity from them everything from 2-6 months. But useally this is topped up more often over it self.

There has also become a new range of coatings just simply mentioned as coating lite. These you get from 7 months up to over a year of longevity from it. To get them over a year of longevity from them you mostly use a primer polish for coatings which replace the finishing polish step or is the only polishing step on a paint with shallow defects on it. IGL Premier and Gyeon CanCoat and Carpro Lite is some of these. Gyeon Primer Polish and Carpro Essence is the primer polishes which has SiO2 and Essence has also fillers that fill in the paint when it's a high finish on it so the gloss gets even higher.

I have to become to like the spray on rinse off products which useally has SiO2 technology in them. Very easy to apply and all from 2-4 months of high performance from them. But so easy to apply and get you an instant bump up in the performance and water behavior and self cleaning ability from them as with most coating like products. Works also great as maintance and topper for the ceramic coatings.

And you have car soap with SiO2 in them that get you a coating like performance after one wash with it. Wolfgang über SiO2 Wash is such of product and Carpro Hydrofoam and Gyeon Bathe+ is some other. You have waterless washes that also does this. And many different spray on and wipe off products as the coating sealants mentioned before. Hybrid ceramic waxes is also a kind of a new range of products with wax and SiO2 in them that gives 2 good things from 2 worlds. Warmer gloss from the wax combo with the candied gloss from the SiO2 and a great performance on the water behavior and self cleaning ability from them.

Then there are some old products that still stands up to these coating sealants. Jescar/Menzerna Powerlock and Sonax PNS and BSD combo and Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant and McKees Hi Def Paint Sealant. And the synthetic waxes and hybrid wax/sealants is also still good. Collinite 845 and 476s and 915, Pinnacle Souverän paste wax and liquid wax, Wolfgang Fusion, Finish Kare 1000p and McKees 37 has a new hybrid wax that's like a wax/SiO2. Klasse twins and Duragloss with many numbers LOL. And have certainly forgot to mention many others. Or the traditional carnuaba wax as P21s is still a special look from them.

Then you have the AIO/cleaner waxes that some like to use and top them with a durable sealant. Blackfire One Step Finish, 3D Speed and Meguiars D166.

Many spray waxes/QD has been more popular to use. Here some use it as a drying aid. Even concentrated waterless wash or rinseless wash in QD dilution is an option as they are that good many of them and economical this way too. Griots Garage Best of Show Detailer and Optimum Car Wax and Sonax BSD and Kenotek Showroom Shine and yeah there are many of them.

That was some of the protection products. But there are so many awesome option to go with. So it's more simple to ask what you want out of a protection product. If you want to apply it with a DA polisher or if you want the longest durability from it or if you are after a certain look from the LSP or it suits a certain paint color and ease of application and how often you are ready to apply it and if it's important with the water behavior and self cleaning ability from it and the cost of it and so on. The more information the better and you will get great advise to some options to go with.
