What is the best method to salvage this steering wheel?

This is the steering wheel of my 2006 Sentra Special Edition that I got pre-owned a while ago. I don't know if its leather or polyurathane but its been like this since I owned it. It got dirty over the period of time but the underlying structure is same. I have been itching to use car wash soap and Mr Clean on it to remove all the dirt but I don't know if that will be enough to smooth out all creases or rub marks on it.

Will appreciate any idea on how best I can clean/fix this.

    Thanks in advance.

If the vehicle was mine, I would apply a leather conditioner and let soak for a spell

I have Mother's VLR, would that work? Just apply and leave it for a day?

Instead of a leather conditioner I would clean it first. Any good leather cleaner or a mild APC will work fine. Just reapply it often and use a light colored microfiber to see when the dirt is removed. I stay away from leather conditioners on my steering wheel as they can attract dirt and grime from your hands. I doubt you will be able to remove the stretch marks, but cleaning it will make a world of difference.

I have Super Clean. I can dilute it 1:16, or do you have a suggestion for a leather cleaner?

Most of that looks to be wear and tear, I believe you don't have many options.

Sorry this is so late, but I just used Super Clean on my steering wheel today. BE VERY CAREFUL around plastic buttons etc....I diluted 10:1 and this stuff is very potent.

Yes, a light as possible layer. Let sit for an hour and the progress.
