Getting that "Itch" to try something different!

I think I'm starting to get that itch to change up the car finish...for no other reason than just to try something new! The rabbit hole is getting deeeeeeper....

I currently have Sonax PNS on my '15 Black Pearl Acura TLX, I absolutely love the buttery feel of PNS (maintained with BSD) but I'm starting to wonder what else is out there. I do not plan on going the Ceramic Coating route since I enjoy tinkering with the car.

The car finish is in very good shape after using BF One Step a few months ago, maybe a very minor/maintenance decontamination but nothing major is needed. This is a daily driver and I do wash (either 2 buckets or single bucket 12 MF towel method) the car weekly.

    Priorities are:
    Glossy Finish
    Protection from the elements
    Somewhat durable...reapply 2-4 months

I'm open to Waxes (paste or liquid), SIO2, etc...

Products I've been thinking about so far:
Blackfire White-Ice over Fire, BlackIce or something similar.
    Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax
Collinite...not sure which but seems very popular. I live in a very humid area and reading another recent post, it seems it doesn't like humidity, something about "sweating" issues.
    Or...stay where I am at!

At this point, I believe in product/manufacturer synergy since I would hope one would make a soap/shampoo that would enhance (or not remove it!) their sealant/wax that would also have a LSP (if needed) to maintain/enhance the sealant/wax...this is not critical but no means.

Thank you very much for your input!

    Jay

Re: Getting that "Itch" to try something different!

Wolfgang über SiO2 wash seems like a great product from Mike Phillips rave review of it. That would work right over PNS/BSD.

Are you very satisfied with the beading and sheeting from PNS and BSD and want something like that next too? Then it's going to be hard as it's so coating like behavior from it. The slickness feeling is something you could excell and was surprised that you have for you a buttery feel from it.

Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Wax could also be an option to try out. With wiping it in and rinsed off thoroughly or wipe it off when you dry the car. Seems like they have getting awesome results from it.

Britemax Remax SiO2 Hydrophobic Spray Sealant is one that did good in a shootout video Forensic Detailing Channel on Youtube did a couple of months ago. And was impressed with it as it did well in most of the different testing of the products.

IGL Premier is also a product that I've only heard great things about. Up there in the coating lite range of products.

There are some options of products that has cought my interest lately. So many products and so few vehicals to test them out on for me LOL.

I'm not saying your old, I'm just saying I show "other" older guys the Pinnacle Liquid Souveran Wax.

As long as you apply a thin coat, it dries fast, wipes off easy. Looks GREAT and lasts as long as any wax depending upon how you "touch" the paint.

    Walking the talk....

I know it's easy for some to think I post "stuff" without ever actualy backing up what I post. I get it....

But here's picture-proof. Here's Pinnacle Souveran Liquid Carnauba Wax on an old 2-door Ford....

    Step 5: Machine Waxing

For the Mustang the team is going to use the Pinnacle Liquid Souveran Carnauba Wax.

Here's Luis, Armando, Justin and Jackson all machine waxing the 1969 Mustang Boss 429

When is the last time you machine waxed a 1969 Mustang Boss 429 Mustang?
Have you ever seen a detailing class documented showing this?

    Step 6: Wax Removal

In this first picture you see Mike inspecting his Forrest Green Edgeless Towel before using it to remove the dried Pinnacle Souveran Carnauba Wax.

Here's my article on the topic of inspecting your towels.

How, why & when to inspect your microfiber towels when detailing cars

On the left in the back is Justin, at the back of the car is Jennifer

    Teamwork!

    Final Results!

That's a nut and bolt, complete restore to a numbers matching 1969 BOSS 429 Mustang.

I guess you could call it a car.

Just one of the cars my class detailed here,

And matte black hood scoop. '69's were painted body color.

Also, Grabber Blue was only available in '70.

Plus, no rear brake scoops, another '69-only feature.

Finally, in place of the outboard headlights on a '69, the 70's got those two horizontal vents.

P.S. - Forgot one, the Mustang emblem moved back to the center of the grill for '70.

Something that seems new and interesting is the “new” cosmic from PA? Originally a sio2 topper it says if you use it with their primer polish or spritz you can get 12-14 months protection. Again a topper not a coating. Spray on wipe off.

I can tell you using it w/o primer it’s performance is coating like and it’s got an amazing glow.

Seriously, after posting thousands of pictures cars I've detailed or of cars I've obtained for my classes to detail over the decades, I've learned to do my best to get the EXACT year for the car I'm sharing just so I'm accurate. I probably hit about 99.9% accuracy.

I though our host told me it was a 1969 and get this, I can't be an expert on every make, model and year for every car ever made that I share on a forum. After reading this thread this morning I called Mike at PRAXIS detailing and asked him about the year and he thought the Museum Curator told him 1969? So he went to the auction website where this car is listed for sale and let me know it is in fact a 1970.

Here's the info for this car,

(Sorry to hijack your thread Jay)

    1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429

    CHASSIS NO: 0F02Z129405

    • Restoration by Mustang expert Kevin Manley, resulting in MCA Concours Gold level condition
    • Extremely rare as 1 of 499 built
    • Exceptional Grabber Blue exterior
    • Pristine white and black interior with Hurst shifter
    • Close-ratio four-speed; 3.91 Traction Lok
    • Accompanied by Original Invoice, Gate Sheet and Deluxe Marti Report

And to get back on topic - my class clayed, machine compounded, machine polished and then machine waxed this bitchin old 2-door Ford and it came out freaking incredible. Before it had swirls and some form of above surface bonded contaminants, so I call this a WIN for the class and a WIN for the owner and also the auction.

Tell you what Jay, go ahead and get your next choice of wax to play with and I'll send you a bottle of the Pinnacle Liquid Souveran to test out.

Just to point out, pretty cool car for a bunch of absolute strangers and in some cases, absolute newbies to take a machine to in a detailing class. I don't see this anywhere else on Planet Earth.
