Detailing an old neglected car.

Hi folks, what is the basic process for exterior detailing a 10+ year old neglected car. Mitsubishi in my case - are the Japanese known for soft paint?

These are my rough ideas:

1. wash car paint with what first?
2. wheels/rinse - need to get some wheel brushes and cleaner
3. ironx and clay
4. 3d one hybrid - looking to buy a waxedshine 12mm throw
5. ipa wipe down
6. collinite 845
7. clean/clay/seal glass - need to research more, seen one simple video using magic eraser.

Just for some context, i'm looking to do this part time in my small community of 3-4k. I work on ships, i'm only home 6 mths a year. No one here offers paint correction on cars.

Right now i'm slowly working on my own car using mothers speed clay, meguiars 06 + quik wax with collinite 845. I also have the drill DA attachment from meguiars with the polishing pad i believe, works pretty good with a powerful drill.

My only suggestion is to consider an alternative to 3D One that leaves behind a paint sealant. There are a lot of choices, McKees 37 360 is one example. Then you can skip the IPA and go straight to applying the 845. Otherwise I'd add a step 5.5 where you apply Jescar Powerlock+, but every step you have adds a lot of labor and you need to make sure you can price this accordingly for your community.

Good point. I do plan on using an AIO for the public and sonax net shield i'm thinking, for quick work.

Sounds like a good order. You can d either I prefer wash, iron remover, clay, cut/correct, polish, LSP. Not a fan of waxes myself but lots seem to love the collinite.

I’d use trix after iron remover step. Good choice g15. Love mine

I ordered from a canadian site along with the G15, i was looking for 3D speed and one but they never carried the products. Thinking now i should of gotten one of griots creams. So many products gets some confusing.

Like is megs ultimate polish stronger then P40? I can pick that up locally.

No opinion on the CG P40, but I can tell you that you would love working with the Griot's creams.

Meg's UP works very well, but it is a PITA to remove.

Thanks yeah the polish was an afterthought. Looks like i should of maybe gotten the correcting cream.

I will use the P40, i'm sure it works has attended.

No more orders lol
