No, it’s because of all the Italian players that the Yankees had like Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, Tony Lazzeri, Phil Rizzuto, Joe Pepitone etc. If you grew up in the NYC metro area and you are Italian, chances are you are a Yankee fan.

    Re: Backing Plate Separation

I grew up near the south end of Hartford, CT, which was predominantly Italian. My high school was in that neighborhood. I always remembered getting fried dough at high school gatherings and in particular some kind of pistachio cookies we used to get for lunch dessert. This still is the only reliable place where I can get an Italian cake baked with strawberries inside and real whipped cream on the outside to this day. Although I'm not close to the North end of Boston, I ran around there in my 20's and 30's when I was young. But you can't get a decent strawberry cake in the North end. I did remember getting ricotta pies and cappuccini at cafe's in the North end of Boston and there was (not sure if still) one cigar bar in the basement of one of the cafe's (but I could never handle cigar smoke anyway).
