Re: Optimum Tire Protection Coating (TPC)

Started the process of stripping the coating off of one of the two tires, used optimum power clean and a few others using my makita power drill and brush. I have about half cleared on one tire but I'm starting to run low on power clean, think I may order some optimum TAR and another bottle of power clean and try to knock it out next weekend.

I got a head start on the other tire when I was leaving the grocery store when I slightly rubbed the curb, I was pissed at first then looked at when I got home and said "oh well"!

No pics but I applied my 3rd coat on my brand new winter tires today, the 1st two were applied yesterday, then they cured over night and into the afternoon where the 3rd coat was applied, so this test is on! These tires have only had OPT tire coating on them, duhOptimum Tire Protection Coating (TPC)

    Coated the winter tires 2x.
Last spring I cleaned them with Megs D143.
I didn't clean again, just lathered them up.

What I started with. 4 years of TW coating.

    1st coat

    side by side

I didn't have the patience to wait 30 minutes. It was dry to the dragging finger.

The final ta-da. 2 coats Optimum top. Yep, that's it. Let the winter fun begin.

You’ve had those tires for a long time.. How much longer do you think they can last before needing to be replaced? Do you know how many miles you’ve put on them? Just curious.

16,000 tops Eldo. I don't drive much. Work and kids are close.

Probably the last year, dunno, still a lot of winter thread left.

Re: Optimum Tire Protection Coating (TPC)

Washed the car Fri night and used the Master Blaster to dry the tires, then let it sit over night. Sat I applied 2 coats with 15 minutes inbetween, tires had a nice satin sheen, let sit for the rest of the day, still no driving. Sunday came around and applied a 3rd coat, tires still looked great, car sat till Monday morning to head to work. I drive 13 miles to work and my great looking tires turned this light brown/tan color, totally weird. How do they go from satin black to tan in 13 milesOptimum Tire Protection Coating (TPC)

I emailed them pic and spoke to a guy and he was of no help, hopefully the pics came through the email I sent them and they get back to me. He said the product is so new and there's so many variablesOptimum Tire Protection Coating (TPC)

    This is interesting.

I noticed my glove, putting it on for the second coat.
I just had to do a fresh one with TW to compare.
    The flaking has me worried.
I am pretty sure you will notice the difference. I stressed both gloves the same way in the name of science.

    Optimum on middle finger

    TW on middle finger.

Yeah Eldo, maybe 20,000 but still got groove baby

Re: Optimum Tire Protection Coating (TPC)

Ok, I just back from downstairs, had to clean the tires properly and see what happens. I used Brake Buster @3:1 in the IK 1.5. I foamed the tires and wheels and let it sit for a couple minutes. I noticed some tan colored foam starting, then scrubbed the tires with a short brissel brush, more tan/light brown foam. I rinsed down and dried the tire and wheel. The finish looks like a new tire with a natrual color, I guess we'll see how it looks after I drive to work tomorrow morning, stay "tuned"Optimum Tire Protection Coating (TPC)

Re: Optimum Tire Protection Coating (TPC)

So this product been out since March anyone got a real sense of durability? I’m more interesting in how long it looks good and what are the looks.

I don’t like super shiny but once some gloss (think CP Perl). This is second cheapest so just like an update before buying McKee’s or Black Pearl.

Thanks to all testing this out

Re: Optimum Tire Protection Coating (TPC)

I called them and they said they were going to get back with me and never did. He did say because it's so new they don't have alot of feedback on it but went on to talk about all the different tires and etc. He then said once its applied you can only remove it for their tar remover, he said it's like mineral spirits on steroids. Well, I used Alien Kleen at 3:1 to remove the goldish/tan look.

As far as the looks go it's very satiny, sheen, not wet looking and I must say the finish is awesome, once the tire is accepting of it and clean and applied in the warm and cured in the warm.

I'm not giving up on it yet because on my 3 season tires it was nice but once you've gotta base coat down, DO NOT top it with its self, it's a big ol' mess. I say to top because you sometimes want that little extra and doing that here is a no no. It plays well with other products so far.
