Pressure washer auto on / off .... how important is it to you?

All the cheapo washers I’ve owned were always on. In my current,search for a washer I’m now aware of the auto on off feature. It makes sense, and I’ve made it a must have but I’m finding locally anyways, all of the industrial power washers do not have this feature. I can score a great machine that will survive a walking dead situation, and nuclear attack.

Ive never had this’s feature so would I miss something I’ve never had?

Do you have auto on/off? Do you wish you did?

I guess it depends on how long you can leave it running without spraying. Zero chance I'd want to walk over and turn it on and off as I do wheels. If I could leave it running for wheels, rinse the paint, then only turn it off to wash then it'd be less of a big deal.

Edit: I only own a cheap electric ryobi with auto on/off so I've never not had the feature

As I start a wash with useing the PW and use it when rinsing the car soap off. I can leave the PW on the whole time and it's only noisy when useing it. The comfort to not hear it on the whole time or switch it on/off. Is totaly worth it for me with the total stop function. Maybe if I would have in the garage with a very long hose. So the noise would not be to desturbing it could work without it. But it's a very nice function to have.

Let’s use 2 minutes maximum time to leave the unit on.

I’m now finding the auto on/off on a more industrial washer is often auto on, but the turn off is after 1-2 minutes, not on/off as the trigger is squeezed/released.

I can see wheel washing and auto on/off being a good thing

I've used both electric and gas for cars and the gas isa PiTA to pull start each time you want to spray. If you leave it running in between uses then you're just burning gas for nothing. Plus, you have to buy gas for it.

My electric one only runs when I pull the trigger. Ended up giving the gas one away.

Given that I worked with pressure washers going all day for about 5 months (switched jobs recently, again) I’d say it’s a complete deal breaker for me for a pressure washer to not have total stop.

May seem extreme, but a machine not having it is just so freaking obnoxious and completely unacceptable to me.

How does a non Auto on/off electric pressure washer work?....I have a Ryobi I pull the trigger and it goes...I let go and it's off

You turn them on and they just keep running. Trigger pulled or not, they’re going. At the shop we would have to rinse the car, turn it off, and then turn it back on to rinse once we were done soaping the cars down.

Super inefficient, but I didn’t make the rules lol. But after listening to those stupid things run for hundreds of hours, I decided I’d never buy one that didn’t stop making that god awful noise.

I think I heard somewhere the total stop set up is a little harder on the electronics or the pump? I didn’t fact check that though. Even if it is, I’d buy something that lasted half as long (not saying that’s how much of an impact it has - just throwing a number out there) if it meant I could make the experience that much more enjoyable.

I don’t think it’d be harder on the pump. Maybe the capacitor?

Does anyone know how to,add total stop to an existing pressure washer? Mtm sells the switches but offers no support. I understand it screws into the pump, and splices into the electronics. I just don’t know what psi switch to buy.

Anyone know what brands come with. I thought I bought my ryobi with it but doesn’t cut all the way off. Be nice to have a list.
