Blackened Lake Country Hybrid Heavy Cut Pads

    Hi,

First time detailer here. I am working on my wife's Black VW Polo. It's a fairly new car late 2017 with 24,000 kms on it. So paint condition is not too shabby.

I am using Flex 3401 with LC Hybrid HC orange pads & Menzerna AIO. The pads are coming out pretty dark after a panel, when I discard them and move onto a fresh orange pad. However is this normal ?

How did you prep the paint before starting to polishing it?

It looks like the paint is very dirty and that is picked up by the pad.

The paint was washed and clayyed a day before cutting.

I had used Megs D155 Last Touch to wipe the panels before polishing. And noticed the pads don't come out as dark, when I didn't apply the QD for some reason.

Re: Lake Country Hybrid Heavy Cut Pads

Are there any difference from panel to panel? Could it be that there some repainted areas?

I think it's just imbedded grime that the pad and Menzerna AIO is desolveing and gets into the pad. How is the polishing results on the paint?

My best guess is that It may be overspray from a repainted panel.

Whatever it was, it was mainly the door panels on both sides. The roof and hood wasn't suffering.

Anyway, it's been cleaned. And sadly I had to put more effort in.

Re: Lake Country Hybrid Heavy Cut Pads

To avoid staining like that on your pads I try to decontaminate the paint best as possible before polishing.

I presoak with an APC diluted 10:1 and then wash with a high PH soap to help strip old layers of protection as well as clean the paint nicely.

After I rinse, I will do an iron decon with your favorite product of choice (Adams, IronX, Griots etc.). Right after the iron decon I rinse and then spray my clay lube down to clay the vehicle. After claying, I give the paint a quick wipe to dry most of the clay lube. My last step before polishing is spraying a paint prep/isopropyl alcohol/body solvent etc. on the paint to remove any residue from all the other processes.

I have found doing this thorough but necessary process helps keep my pads clean and improves the polishing cycle.
