I presoak with an APC diluted 10:1 and then wash with a high PH soap to help strip old layers of protection as well as clean the paint nicely.

After I rinse, I will do an iron decon with your favorite product of choice (Adams, IronX, Griots etc.). Right after the iron decon I rinse and then spray my clay lube down to clay the vehicle. After claying, I quick the paint a quick wipe to dry most of the clay lube. My last step before polishing is spraying a paint prep/isopropyl alcohol/body solvent etc. on the paint to remove any residue from all the other processes.

I have found doing this thorough but necessary process helps keep my pads clean and improves the polishing cycle.
Thanks. Sounds like solid advise to remember for next time. Thanks
