Re: What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Did my first maint wash in an attempt to keep up with DFB ( ). At beginning of July I did the full Wolfgang SiO2 shebang. I got caught on the highway in a torrential five minute storm. Beaded nice but instead of blackish colored spots of dirt on the sides...it was more brownish. So I am not sure the water behavior is much different than Meg Ultimate Liquid wax.

However I washed with WGUWash and wow. So so so easy (not that regular soap is hard)! I used 2oz in a 3 gallon bucket and two bucketed it. It washed so easy. Was slippery during wash. I used a blower on it and really most likely did not need to touch it after that. I did, however, use WGWW and a MF towel to "dry" it (the spots where I didnt get all the water off the surface). Just amazed how glassy it looks. I did not use my SiO2 spray at all.

So I like it enough to keep on the WG system. Just need to hawk the sales for the Uber Wash. LOL!

Coated my wheels and calipers with Gtechniq C5. I found a clay bar was effective in removing the final black dots off the spokes and barrel. The coating spread easily and wiped off without any grab. One coat and done! After curing the gloss is wonderful.

Re: What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

I finally fixed something that has annoyed me since I bought it 4 years ago. The previous owner wore multiple rings on his left hand, and then rested it on the gear knob, scratching the flat silver finish. I removed the centre cap, sanded it back, gave it 4 light coats of satellite silver, then 4 coats of clear. Wet sanded with some 1500, than hand buffed with Scholl S20 then S30+. Very happy with the result. The FJ already has some interior panels that colour match the exterior, so it won't look out of place.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to use for extra protection before I put it back in? I don't wear rings so it'll just be my hand resting on it while driving, I know, bad habit, but hard to break. What did you do today, in regards to detailing?-psx_20200714_145019-jpg

Nice work! I'm toying with the idea of doing something similar to my cars.

More Ranger detailing, this time my fathers company car. If anyone is going to wash it, I may as well be me!

I have been maintaining this Ranger once a month. In addition to the wash with Reset, the leather trim was cleaned, rubber mats scrubbed, 303 for the interior surfaces and exterior trim, Reload for the paint and tires dressed with Gyeon Q2M Gel.

    Loving this handy tool.

All clean again, knowing my Dad, probably for 48 seconds.

Re: What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Ordered up a new FLEX XCE 10-8 125 to compliment my 3401 units in use already. Moving away from using the Rupes Mille as it's just not proving to hold up as I hoped it would. I REALLY hope I'm not disappointed in the XCE. I only ordered it because I want to get the purchase over with and the regular 3401's are out of stock and evidently this unit will eventually replace the old beast. I'm gun-shy given I wasn't happy with the Mille so fingers are crossed.

I plan on using the XCE going forward for the remainder of this season leveraging the 5" backing plate and smaller pads. I'll continue to keep my 3401 loaded for use with the larger 6-6.5" pads I also use.

    Time will tell.

I washed my daily driver just in time for it to rain afterward. Lol

Re: What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Finally had a couple of cooler days lately so was able to get some work in the yard done yesterday and washed my car today (don't mind the weeds, hadn't gotten to them yet.)

As like most of us I don't really need a super strong wheel cleaner but every now and then I like to use something more aggressive to get a deeper clean so used Gtechniq W6 Iron remover on the wheels and 3D Orange Degreaser on the tires.

Paint washed with Reset. I don't like Beadmaker but it was the first thing I saw on the rack and I haven't used it in a while so used it as a drying aid, I'll probably regret it. Wheels were blow dried and wiped down also with BM.

Engine bay wiped down with N 914 and while i was in there I checked my oil. All good.

Windows cleaned with Megs Glass Cleaner Concentrate and tires dressed with PERL.

Bro, I feel so you much on that. My dad's RAV4 is... my dad's RAV4. He doesn't believe in drying the car after he's washed it. Says the sun will evaporate the water.
