Re: What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

I finished up my work today on my Fusion. I used the WGFinishing Polish and then the SiO2 Sealant. I struggled with product, pad load (to much product) and pad stalling. I feel I used way to much product for the finish with both items. While the Finishing polish was doable (I figured out how to get it "right") and I was able to remove the scuffs and scratches I put into the finish by over exuberant claying, the sealant was so different.

However this SiO2 is like water versus lotion! To prep the pad, the pad literally just soaked it up (put a thin line on the outside to work it in with my finger; did not act the same way what-so-ever as the Polish). So I would put my working product on it and kiss the panel as fast as I could and attempted to spread it. Being a pearl white it was almost impossible to see. So as I added more product to the point I could see it on the paint surface then my pad became soaked and would introduce pad stall even faster. I have a G9.

I am using LC Thin White for polish and LC Thin Black for the SiO2 sealant. Car looks fantastic but I am still scratching my head on the excessive use of sealant I used. So much that cleaning the pad was a waste of time and I chalked it up to a learning curve and will buy new ones.

Does anybody else use the SiO2 and have suggestions on how to correct my mistakes listed above? Oh and I shook the sealant many times in between pad changes with the polish as well as vigorously before use and before each pad application.

Ill put out in the sun pictures tomorrow.

Washed/clayed the Ram last night with Meg’s HW.

Got after it today with the G9 & Griot’s CC.
The G9 is a really sweet machine with power to spare. I love the trigger lock.

Polished up the wheels and exhaust tips with Collinite Metal Wax.
McKee’s trim restore on trim, and DG253 on the tires.

Tomorrow will be WGDGPS, then Fuzion on Sunday.

I just wanted to share my pad cleaning method for anyone who might be interested.
This pad was sprayed with McKee’s pad cleaner and dropped into a bucket of 3D Towel Kleen solution after being used.

No agitation, just soaking for 5-10 minutes, and this is how it looked when I pulled it out.

Notice the Griot’s Correcting Cream residue in the bucket. (From about 6 pads at that point).

It works for me. Just thought I’d share.

The tires were cleaned with DP Detailing Tire and Wheel cleaner. A good product but one small bottle doesn’t go very far. The tires got a coat of Duragloss 253 and the truck got a coating of Turtle Wax spray on ceramic coating.

I went to use my partial tube of Opti-lens and it had turned to jello.
Pushing the plunger got most of the goo out out but also cemented it in place.
It worked okay but what a waste.

I think I left to much air in the syringe last time.

When will Optimum make it easier? The dribble method is all I do now but bleeding the air out is a scary proposition.

Re: What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Had to give the Qashqai a wash, I moved it out of the garage for a couple of hours, to do a little clean up. While it was parked in the driveway a nice layer of dust settled on it. So today I gave it a foam bath using Snow Job, then rinsed and dried using After Glow, it's only been driven twice in the last month so there was nothing requiring any hard contact. The tyres were coated with 303 Aerospace Protectant about 2 months ago, I think you can tell it's garaged now. Re: What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

I cleaned these wheels on the van at work today, with the usual Euro brake dust build up.

I never really use strong chemicals on my own cars because they never have a chance to build up grime like these wheels.

CarPro IronX LS really smashed the brake dust into submission.

The end result isn't perfection, it a hardworking van after all, but certainly a massive improvement.

I would have to say that WGDGPS does indeed make metallic “pop”.
