    Bug and Tar removal

I just detailed a VW suv yesterday. It was nasty, bugs/tar, road grime, you name it. Anyway, Iím looking for a bug and tar remover with good dwell time and clinging ability. I liked using TW bug and tar foam because of the dwell time but I canít see myself using almost a full can for every detail. Whatís your favorite bug and tar remover? As well as the process to remove bugs and tar?

    Thanks a bunch!

If the tar is really bad I reach for the citrol 266.

I like that it can be diluted, is it effective on tar or just mainly bugs?

    Re: Bug and Tar removal

I haven't tried Citrol yet, nor have I tried Tarminator which usually is viewed very favorably.

Personally, I always keep a 1000ml bottle of TarX on hand. I just haven't found anything else that works better, even Gyeon Tar falls short of TarX IMO.

    Re: Bug and Tar removal

Just found a distributor for the Schaeffer's Citrol 266 Cleaner Citrus Degreaser here in Raleigh. He only has the aerosol cans right now. I am going to give stuff a try. Looks like you can dilute it down to 20:1.

Coleroad, thanks for the tip. Do you use it straight or do you dilute it? I watched some videos already and understand that you need to wash the area right after using the Citrol 266 to flush it.

I use the aerosol can. I don't use tons of it. When other stuff doesn't work, or I need to remove adhesive residue. I've heard you don't have to rinse it, and you must rinse it. I've done better safe than sorry approach.

For the bugs like said above poorboy's bug squash is it. Great at removing them and no harm to your lsp.

I get my citrol at napa.

    Re: Bug and Tar removal

Stonerís Xenit Citrus and Tarminator work exceptionally well on tar. For excessive bug removal (friends or customerís) I usually just use Meguiarís APC at 10:1 dilution, part of the aggressive wash process.

Iíve got my first order of PBís Bug Squash sitting at AG HQ waiting to be shipped hoping that will work on light tar.

Both Xenit and Tarminator just melt the tar away. Heavy tar removal especially trucks can require well over one can of either product.
